Services
We offer many services, but I think the most valuable service is that we offer ourselves to each other for the benefit of the physician community. We are only as strong as commitments to the idea of a practice shared by all, one with out walls. Please make our organization stronger. Please ask questions, use the services, and get involved. We will all benefit…..

History
In the mid 1980’s, Grand Traverse area physicians recognized
that they were unprepared to participate in managed care.
This recognition served as a stimulus to create a physician’s
organization. Today, as the climate continues to change in
the medical environment, so does the direction of our organization.
NPO currently has the enthusiasm and leadership to continue
to be the physician group of Northern Michigan, maintaining
quality representation of all our various communities.
Purpose
For practices of all sizes and in all specialties the benefits
of active participation in NPO far outweigh the investment
for membership. The ways to participate are as numerous as
the programs and services NPO offers.
Northern Physicians Organization continues to change with
the times because our leadership is constantly looking for
ways to help your practice run more smoothly and efficiently.
In addition to the direction NPO is taking we continue to
honor the innovative NPO goals established during NPO’s
inception during the mid 1980’s.
- To unite independent physicians in preservation of individual
physicians practices.
- Provide support to physicians so they can maintain the
type and size of practice they want.
- To do what is “best” for the physicians as
a group of members of NPO.
- To advocate for the health needs of the general population.
- To optimize the physician position in the development of
a health care system.
- To attain an “equal seat” and recognition for
physicians when working with hospitals, third party payers
or other entities.
- To be an advocate for physicians.
- To provide resources to physicians in order to effectively
manage their practices.
- To promote a strong, positive perception of physicians
united as NPO.
- To be a political voice for physicians at the regional,
state and national levels.
