True Self Confidence
Harry Kraemer is an executive partner with Madison Dearborn Partners, a private equity firm based in Chicago. He is also the former chairman and CEO of Baxter International Inc. a $9 billion global healthcare company. He is also a Clinical Professor of Management and Strategy at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management where he teaches courses on leadership, management strategy, and M&A.
Harry Kraemer’s time with us at the Physician CEO 2016 Program was very inspiring and thought provoking. He said great leaders know what they are really good at and they have great relationships with individuals who know everything. He asked us these two questions..
1. Are you able to say “I don’t know”
2. Are you able to say “I was wrong”
He went on to say leaders should periodically ask themselves:
What are you going to do?
What are you going to stop doing?
Why are we doing this?
How often do we do this?
Ask your team to ask these last two questions as well:
Are you able to say “I don’t know”?
Is there anything in your life that you would change?
